More Information on Princess Cadence and Shining Armor

By FemmeTurk

Sorry for being so late, but I’m way busy with our Your Siblings Christmas campaign, now that Equestria Daily has reported on it!

On December 9, Equestria Daily posted two photos (link dead now) from an event apparently called Hasbro’s world HQ party: “A couple of new ponies showed up on posters at a recent Hasbro’s world HQ party. I am not sure what the context is, or who these ponies are, but if you squint at that poster in the second image, the names appear to be ‘Princess Cadence’ and ‘Shining Armor.’  For all we know, they could be two Hasbro employee’s OC ponies. They look pretty elaborate overall.”

I took this just seriously enough to tweet it and make a backup of the post, but not knowing any details, I didn’t post on it myself.

Since the post has since been deleted on Equestria Daily, let me at this point note that if you are somepony working on the show and you want the images or something else removed from this post, just ask.

The story has taken a new twist when Andrew Francis, the voice of Braeburn, tweeted on 2011-12-14 00:16:20Z (since deleted): “Had a sweet time voicing Shining Armor for the new My Little Pony! And bein stuck in a room full a ladies didnt hurt either.. #mylittlepony”

Equestria Daily also reported that “Other news from deep within the bowels of the internet also pointed at this particular episode being a season finale, we are sticking those under the rumor tag for now though.”

Congratulations, Princess Cadence, you are our fourth canon alicorn. (You remember Pluto from Lesson Zero, right?)

The photos posted on December 9 on Equestria Daily can be found after the break.

Update 2012-01-20 21:52Z: Shining Armor’s cutie mark can be seen clearly in this video. (Via Equestria Daily)

Update 2012-01-25 07:48Z: We can look forward to a Princess Cadence toy.

Update 2012-01-26 09:24Z: Equestria Daily has pictures of the playset, but they are tiny and don’t reveal much. Somepony please snap a pic of her cutie mark and a few more of the box, so we can read the text.

Update 2012-02-05 22:11Z: Damn it! I want to see her cutie mark already! Equestria Daily has posted two photos of a Princess Cadence toy, but again, the cutie mark is veiled.

Update 2012-02-05 22:18Z: This translation of what sounds like promotional Hasbro material on Princess Cadence and Shining Armor may also be of interest. I thought I should at least mention it.

Update 2012-02-09 19:14Z: Hasbro has just published an article on Business Wire that mentions Princess Cadence (though misspelled): “Pony fans can act out imaginative stories of their own with delightful MY LITTLE PONY figures, playsets, and vehicles inspired by the series, including a variety of ponies and playsets inspired by the upcoming fall wedding of PRINCESS CADANCE.”

Update 2012-02-09 23:47Z: I’ve asked myself what the word “fall” was doing in there, but now Equestria Daily is stressing the point a lot more. Seth is wondering whether season two will be stretched out over the year, or if there is going to be a movie. Stretching the season like that would be odd, which leaves the movie theory. In September, Jayson Thiessen already mentioned “Maybe a movie—I’m not saying there is.” (10:10) And at the time of Andrew Francis’s tweet above, audio recording for season two was long done, so indeed, everything points to a movie. (There is the additional detail that Seth is basing his theory on a singe word which may have easily been a mistake. This suggests that he may have insider information he cannot reveal, so that he was keenly waiting for the right official statement to tie them in with. Just an idea.)

Update 2012-02-09 21:50Z: Finally, the cutie mark! (What is it?) Also the wedding is set for spring, as was to be expected, so the “fall” mentioned in the previous update may have simply been an error. Still there is Andrew Francis’s tweet. Who knows what all this means.

Update 2012-02-13 10:27Z: Lauren Faust was “very involved in the inception of the [Princess Cadence] story” but at the time Cadence was not an Alicorn. What decision was made later. I hope that wasn’t just Hasbro wanting to put a horn or wings on their toys. (Via Equestria Daily)

  1. This is interesting. I would have to wonder what her element of power is. Celestia is the sun and Luna is the moon. Is this new princess the goddess of the earth or animals or something?

  2. Considering that castle in the background doesn't look anything like Canterlot, (too round, not only not on a mountain, but on a flat field) perhaps this is another country. Didn't someone on the team almost sorta confirm other countries in an interview or something? Maybe it's Trottingham?

  3. >You remember Pluto from Lesson Zero, right?

That trip to magic kindergarten only happened in Twilight's twisted (at the time) mind. That same filly has also shown up multiple time in the show, as a regular pegasus.

  4. “That trip to magic kindergarten only happened in Twilight's twisted (at the time) mind.”

“… only happened in Twilight's twisted (at the time) mind.”

    “… only happened in Twilight's … mind.”

    “… only …”

Every last hallucination and opiatic dream of my beloved Twilight is rock-solid truth to me!

    (I’m not obsessive or anything…)

  8. they're probably referring to an in universe fall wedding, meaning fall in Equestria. Not necessarily fall for us.

    1. So far the seasons in Equestria have been pretty much in sync with our seasons around the original air dates.

    3. You’re right. There were a few glaring exceptions in season one.
